How do you deal with the stress of writing a resume?
I have to say that in all of my years of hiring and reviewing resumes, I am always amazed at the lack of attention that a resume gets.
This says a lot to the potential employer at your first impression and if you don't do it right, it's probably your last.
I have seen resumes with bad formatting, bad grammar, and even bad spelling.
What that tells me as a potential employer is that you are not qualified for the job because you:
- Don't care enough about this first impression to do spell check or get someone to help you
- Don't know how to spell or write and therefore you would not represent my company well
- You are lazy and don't care if you get the job
Maybe those seem extreme, but when you get 70 applications for a position, it makes it really easy to weed out 50 of them right off the bat.
I may have missed a few diamonds in the rough by doing that filtering process, but how else are you supposed to sift the chaff from the wheat as the saying goes?
In my mind, this is a first impression that you can't mess up. If you are not technical, then there are some easy ways to get help now on the web. Take advantage of these tools!
